Parish Announcements – 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time – 16 August 2026
- Monday, 17 August – St Hyacinth, Priest;
- Thursday, 20 August – St Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church;
- Friday, 21 August – St Pius X, Pope;
- Saturday, 22 August – the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The date of this celebration is closely connected with the history of the Polish nation. On this day in 1920, united under the banner of Mary, Poles defended their newly regained independence, together with their culture and faith.
It is a day of gratitude and a call to ensure that the sacrifice of our ancestors continues to live through our social and patriotic decisions. The principal Mass will be celebrated for Poland, its soldiers and veterans.
This celebration is also connected with the beginning of the harvest of “the fruit of the earth and the work of human hands”. Traditionally, after Holy Communion, we will bless the first fruits of this year’s harvest. Let us also pray for all who work on the land and for favourable weather.
Sincere thanks to everyone who helped clean our church. The next cleaning will take place on Friday after the evening Mass, at approximately 7:45 pm. Everyone willing to help is warmly invited.
Next Sunday, Holy Mass will be celebrated in Wisbech.
You are invited to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from Tuesday to Friday, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm. The Sacrament of Confession will also be available during this time. On Sundays, Confession will be available before Masses whenever possible.
This year’s observance of August as a month of abstinence from alcohol coincides with the important 70th anniversary of the Jasna Góra Vows of the Polish Nation. On 26 August 1956, at Jasna Góra, what the then-imprisoned Blessed Primate Stefan Wyszyński described as a “true miracle” took place, transforming the face of the Polish land.
May this August become a new beginning for our dedicated work towards the renewal of our hearts, families, communities and our entire homeland.
On 26 August, the Solemnity of Our Lady of Częstochowa, we will renew the Jasna Góra Vows of the Polish Nation at the end of Holy Mass.
Our parish is organising pilgrimages to Walsingham and Fatima. Further details can be found on the posters near the church exit.
