Today we observe the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism. This day was established by the European Parliament in 2008, and its date is connected with the anniversary of the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact.
It was first publicly commemorated in Warsaw in 2011. Today, when historical facts are so often questioned or relativised and history is sometimes reshaped in the name of so-called political correctness, we must not forget the suffering caused by totalitarian regimes.
Let us pray that the suffering of their victims may bear good fruit for future generations.
Thank you to everyone who cleaned the church for this Sunday. We also warmly invite new volunteers who would like to support those who regularly help with the cleaning.
The next church cleaning will take place on Friday after the evening Mass, at approximately 7:45 pm.
On Wednesday, 26 August, our thoughts and hearts will once again turn towards Jasna Góra as we honour Our Lady of Częstochowa. It is a feast that holds a particularly important place in Polish Catholic tradition.
St John Paul II reminded us what Jasna Góra is, and what it should be for us, when he said:
At the conclusion of Holy Mass we will renew the Act of Entrustment of the Polish Nation to the Mother of God.
On Saturday, 29 August, the Church commemorates the Martyrdom of St John the Baptist. This is the second liturgical celebration dedicated to him during the year, following the Solemnity of his Nativity on 24 June.
Because of his uncompromising witness to the truth, John the Baptist, like the prophets before him and later the Apostles, paid the highest price.
On this day we will ask for his intercession for moral order in our families, communities and throughout our nation.
You are warmly invited to Eucharistic Adoration from Tuesday to Friday, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. During this time there will also be an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
On Sundays, Confession will be available before Masses whenever possible.
Registration is now open for candidates preparing for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Further information can be found on the posters.
By decision of the Provincial Superior, in September Fr Sebastian will conclude his pastoral ministry in our parish and will take up new responsibilities in the parish of Our Lady of Częstochowa serving Northwich, Warrington and Liverpool.
12:30 pm
All parishioners are warmly invited to Fr Sebastian’s farewell Mass. After Mass there will be an opportunity to meet and speak with him, followed by cake and coffee in the parish hall.
