Catholic Calendar: 28.06–04.07.2026
Sunday, 28 June 2026 — Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Liturgical designation: Sunday in Ordinary Time (green); Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time; Week I of the Psalter.
Essence of the day: The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time places the disciple of Christ before a direct question: is Jesus truly first? The Gospel speaks of love that orders every other relationship, of the cross that is not defeat but the path of fidelity, and of small acts of goodness that have value before God. Christ does not diminish family love or human bonds. He shows, however, that only love rooted in Him becomes free, pure and capable of sacrifice. This Sunday reminds us that the disciple does not choose the Gospel only when it is easy. He follows the Lord also when this requires courage, renunciation of selfishness and readiness to carry one’s own cross. At the same time, Jesus reveals the beauty of simple actions: welcoming another person, showing kindness, offering hospitality and giving a cup of water to someone who is thirsty.
Quote: “Whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones will surely not lose his reward” (cf. Mt 10:42).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, teach me to love You above all things, and through You to love others wisely, faithfully and purely. Help me not to run away from the cross of daily life, but to carry it with You. Make my heart attentive to small opportunities for good.
Practice: Do one simple act of love today for someone who may feel overlooked: a conversation, a phone call, practical help, an invitation, a good word or a concrete service.
Saints of the day: Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. Sunday takes precedence in the liturgy as the Lord’s Day, the centre of the Christian week, the day of the Eucharist, rest and renewal of the covenant with God. The witness of St Irenaeus, Bishop and Martyr, may also inspire personal prayer, even though the Sunday liturgy takes precedence.
Monday, 29 June 2026 — Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
Liturgical designation: Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles (red).
Essence of the day: The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul is one of the great apostolic days in the Church’s calendar. St Peter reminds us of a faith that is tested, that passes through weakness, denial and tears, yet is raised up by the mercy of Christ. To him Jesus entrusted the mission of being the rock on which He builds His Church. St Paul reveals the power of conversion and missionary zeal. From a persecutor he became the Apostle to the nations, a man entirely seized by Christ. Together, Peter and Paul remind us that the Church is apostolic: built on the witness of those who saw the Lord, proclaimed the Gospel and gave their lives for the faith. This is a day of prayer for the unity of the Church, for the Pope, bishops, priests, missionaries and all lay faithful who have the courage to profess Christ in their own environments.
Quote: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church” (Mt 16:18).
Prayer: God, who strengthened the foundations of the Church through the holy Apostles Peter and Paul, give me a faith that is courageous, humble and missionary. Help me, despite my weaknesses, to return to Christ and to witness to Him wherever You send me.
Practice: Pray today for the Pope, bishops, priests and missionaries. Recite the Creed, asking for the renewal of your own faith and courage in bearing witness.
Saints of the day: Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles — pillars of the Church, witnesses of Christ, martyrs of Rome and patrons of apostolic courage.
Tuesday, 30 June 2026 — The First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church
Liturgical designation: Memorial of the First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church (red).
Essence of the day: The day after the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, the Church remembers the first martyrs of Rome — Christians who, in times of persecution, bore witness to the faith even to the shedding of blood. We do not know all their names. Many remained anonymous to history, but not to God. Their memory reminds us that the Church was born from courageous confession of Christ, from prayer, from forgiveness of persecutors and from hope stronger than death. Today is not a glorification of suffering, but a reminder that love for Christ can be greater than fear. The martyrs teach us that the Gospel is not an addition to life, but the truth for which it is worth living and to which it is worth remaining faithful to the end.
Quote: “Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Rev 2:10).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, through the witness of the first martyrs of the Holy Roman Church, strengthen my faith. Give courage to persecuted Christians, consolation to those who suffer and fidelity to all who pay a price for the Gospel each day.
Practice: Pray today for persecuted Christians throughout the world. Refrain from complaining about small difficulties and offer them for those who suffer because of their faith.
Saints of the day: The First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church — witnesses of the faith of the first centuries, signs of courage, hope and fidelity to Christ.
Wednesday, 1 July 2026 — Wednesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time; St Junípero Serra; St Otto of Bamberg
Liturgical designation: Weekday in Ordinary Time (green); where observed, memorials of missionary saints may be remembered.
Essence of the day: Wednesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time brings us back into the ordinary rhythm of life after the strong apostolic and martyred witness of the previous days. Ordinary Time does not mean spiritual mediocrity. It is precisely in an ordinary day that faith is tested: in work, duties, relationships and decisions. The missionary witnesses of St Junípero Serra and St Otto of Bamberg remind us of patience in proclaiming the Gospel. The mission of the Church is not only about great words, but also about building trust, caring for people, persevering and working quietly where God has placed us. This day invites us not to despise small steps. God often leads the human heart not through sudden breakthroughs, but through the faithful repetition of what is good.
Quote: “Trust in the Lord and do good” (Ps 37:3).
Prayer: Lord, teach me faithful everyday life. May my work, words, duties and meetings become places of quiet witness. Give me missionary patience and a heart ready to serve the Gospel without discouragement.
Practice: Choose one task today that you have been putting off and complete it calmly and honestly. Offer your work for those who are still searching for God.
Saints of the day: St Junípero Serra — missionary and preacher of the Gospel; St Otto of Bamberg — bishop, missionary and witness of patient evangelisation.
Thursday, 2 July 2026 — Thursday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time; First Thursday; Our Lady of Licheń
Liturgical designation: Weekday in Ordinary Time (green); First Thursday of the month; where observed, devotional memory of Our Lady of Licheń.
Essence of the day: First Thursday of the month directs the heart toward the Eucharist, the priesthood and prayer for vocations. In the ordinary rhythm of the week, the Church remembers that Christ continues to act through the sacraments, through the word of God, through the ministry of priests and through the community of believers. This is a day of gratitude for those who proclaim the Gospel, celebrate the Eucharist, reconcile people with God in the sacrament of penance and accompany communities on the path of faith. Spiritually, First Thursday also calls us to pray for healing of the heart. Jesus says to the paralysed man: rise. This word touches not only the body, but also the soul: fear, sin, discouragement, helplessness and everything that takes away the freedom of a child of God. The memory of Our Lady of Licheń invites us to entrust our personal, family and parish needs to Mary, who always leads us to Christ.
Quote: “Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home” (cf. Mt 9:6).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for the Eucharist and the sacrament of priesthood. Strengthen priests in holiness, send new labourers into Your harvest, and heal in me everything paralysed by sin, fear or discouragement. Mary, Mother of Christ, lead me closer to Your Son.
Practice: Pray today for a specific priest. If possible, visit a church or pray before the Blessed Sacrament, asking for new priestly, religious and missionary vocations.
Saints of the day: Weekday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time; First Thursday as a day of prayer for priests, vocations and deeper love for the Eucharist; Our Lady of Licheń as a Marian sign of trust and intercession.
Friday, 3 July 2026 — St Thomas the Apostle; First Friday of the month
Liturgical designation: Feast of St Thomas the Apostle (red); First Friday of the month.
Essence of the day: The Feast of St Thomas the Apostle is a special day for all who believe, yet at times struggle with questions, uncertainty and the need for a deeper encounter with Christ. Thomas is often remembered as the one who did not immediately believe the testimony of the other disciples. Yet the Gospel shows something more: a man who does not want to live with superficial faith. Jesus comes to him not to humiliate him, but to lead him to one of the most beautiful confessions in the New Testament: “My Lord and my God.” Thomas teaches that questions do not have to lead us away from God if they are carried in truth, humility and a desire to meet the Risen One. Since this day falls on the First Friday of the month, it also becomes an opportunity for reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, confession, Holy Communion and prayer for a heart that believes more deeply than mere habit.
Quote: “My Lord and my God” (Jn 20:28).
Prayer: Risen Jesus, come to my closed doors, to my questions, fears and doubts. Teach me the faith of St Thomas: sincere, humble and able to confess with love that You are my Lord and my God.
Practice: Pray today the act of faith: “My Lord and my God.” If possible, go to confession or attend First Friday Mass, making reparation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Saints of the day: St Thomas the Apostle — witness of the Risen Lord, patron of those who seek certainty in faith, apostle leading from questions to a deep confession of Christ.
Saturday, 4 July 2026 — Saturday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time; First Saturday; Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday; St Elizabeth of Portugal
Liturgical designation: Weekday in Ordinary Time (green) or memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday (white), or memorial of St Elizabeth of Portugal (white); First Saturday of the month.
Essence of the day: First Saturday of the month closes the week in a spirit of entrustment, reparation and prayer for peace of heart. The Church often lives Saturday as a Marian day, looking to the Mother of Christ, who keeps the Word, ponders it in her heart and leads the disciples toward obedience to Jesus. The possible memorial of St Elizabeth of Portugal brings into this day the theme of peace, reconciliation and quiet service. As a queen, wife and mother, Elizabeth repeatedly became an instrument of harmony where conflict was growing. Today invites us to ask God for peace in families, communities, nations and within every human heart. After a week of discipleship, apostolic courage, memory of the martyrs, prayer for priests and the encounter with St Thomas, First Saturday teaches us to pause, give thanks and entrust everything to Mary.
Quote: “Do whatever he tells you” (Jn 2:5).
Prayer: Mary, Mother of Christ, lead me to Jesus. Teach me to listen to the Word, keep it in my heart and respond to God with simple trust. Through the intercession of St Elizabeth of Portugal, obtain peace for my family, parish, the world and my own heart.
Practice: Pray a decade of the Rosary or the whole Rosary in the spirit of First Saturday. Think of one relationship that needs peace and take one small step toward reconciliation: prayer, a good word, forgiveness or giving up judgment.
Saints of the day: Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday — Mother of the disciples of Christ, model of faith and trust; St Elizabeth of Portugal — queen, wife, mother, peacemaker and intercessor for reconciliation.
The period from 28 June to 4 July 2026 leads the Church through the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time as a school of discipleship, apostolic courage and faith maturing in everyday life. The Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time reminds us that Christ must be first, and that love for Him is expressed also in small acts of goodness. The Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul reveals the apostolic foundation of the Church, while the memorial of the First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church calls us to fidelity stronger than fear. The weekdays teach patient building of the good; First Thursday directs us toward prayer for priests and vocations; the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle leads us from questions to the confession “My Lord and my God”; and First Saturday closes the week in a spirit of Marian trust, peace and reconciliation.

Prayer for the days 28.06–04.07.2026
Lord Jesus,
lead me through this week
on the path of fidelity, courage
and simple acts of love.
On the Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
teach me to choose You
above fear,
comfort,
selfishness
and everything that closes my heart.
Help me not to run away
from the cross of daily life,
but to carry it with You
in patience,
humility
and trust.
Open my eyes
to the least:
those thirsting for goodness,
the lonely,
the tired,
the overlooked
and those waiting even for a cup of water,
a kind word
or a moment of presence.
Through the intercession
of Saints Peter and Paul,
strengthen my bond with the Church.
Give me the faith of Peter,
who despite weakness
returns to You,
and the zeal of Paul,
who after meeting You
does not keep the Gospel to himself.
Bless the Pope,
bishops,
priests,
missionaries,
consecrated persons,
families
and all lay faithful
who proclaim Christ
in everyday life.
Through the witness
of the First Martyrs of the Holy Roman Church,
give courage to persecuted Christians,
consolation to those who suffer
and fidelity to those
who pay the price for the Gospel.
Do not allow fear
to become stronger
than love for You.
In the weekdays
teach me patiently to build what is good:
in work,
at home,
on the road,
in conversation,
in responsibility
and in quietly fulfilling my duties.
On First Thursday
renew in me gratitude
for the Eucharist
and for the sacrament of priesthood.
Strengthen priests,
send new vocations
and heal everything
in my heart that is paralysed
by sin,
fear
or discouragement.
On the Feast of St Thomas the Apostle
come into my questions,
doubts
and closed doors.
Teach me to say with faith:
My Lord and my God.
May my questions
not lead me away from You,
but bring me to a deeper encounter
with the Risen Lord.
On First Friday
accept my reparation
and make my heart
more like
Your Most Sacred Heart.
Mary,
Mother of Christ
and Mother of the Lord’s disciples,
on First Saturday
lead me to Jesus.
Teach me to listen to the Word,
keep it in my heart
and respond to God
with simple trust.
Through the intercession
of St Elizabeth of Portugal,
obtain peace for families,
communities,
nations
and my own heart.
May the days from 28 June to 4 July
not be merely another week,
but a path toward deeper faith,
greater love,
more courageous witness
and a heart ready to serve.
Amen.
