Sunday, 17 May 2026 — The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord

Liturgical designation: Solemnity of the Easter Season (white).
Essence of the day: The Ascension of the Lord shows Christ who, after the Resurrection, returns to the Father, yet does not abandon the Church. His departure is not absence, but the beginning of the disciples’ mission. Jesus sends the Apostles to proclaim the Gospel to all nations, and the Church learns to look towards heaven not in order to escape the world, but to bring the world more faithfully the hope of salvation.
Quote: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, who ascended to the glory of the Father, lift my heart towards what is eternal. Teach me to live on earth without losing sight of heaven, and give me courage to bear witness to You in everyday life.
Practice: After Mass, say a short prayer for missionaries, for the Church and for those who have not yet come to know Christ. Ask yourself: to whom can I bring a word of hope today?
Saints of the day: The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord takes precedence in the liturgy. The Roman Martyrology also recalls, among others, St Paschal Baylon, religious, and St Restituta, martyr.

Monday, 18 May 2026 — Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white); optional memorial of St John I, Pope and Martyr, or St Stanislaus Papczyński, priest.
Essence of the day: Jesus speaks to the disciples about a peace that does not depend on external circumstances. Faith does not automatically remove pressure, fatigue or struggle, but it allows us to pass through them with a heart rooted in the victory of Christ. The memorial of St John I reminds us of the Church’s fidelity even in the face of political violence, while St Stanislaus Papczyński teaches persevering care for the poor, the dead and the spiritually neglected.
Quote: “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage; I have conquered the world” (J 16:33).
Prayer: Jesus, Victor over the world, strengthen me in those moments when I am tempted to fear, discouragement or loneliness. Give me the peace that is born of trust in You.
Practice: Offer one difficulty today for someone experiencing spiritual pressure. You may also pray for deceased family members or for the souls in purgatory.
Saints of the day: Optional memorial of St John I, Pope and Martyr; St Stanislaus Papczyński, priest, is also remembered; anniversary of the birth of St John Paul II.

Tuesday, 19 May 2026 — Tuesday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white).
Essence of the day: The liturgy leads us into the priestly prayer of Jesus. Christ speaks to the Father about glory, eternal life and the disciples whom He has received. This day teaches us that the deepest purpose of faith is not merely the improvement of life, but the knowledge of God and communion with Him. St Ivo Helory, known as an advocate of the poor and a sign of justice, reminds us that the truth of the Gospel must touch everyday relationships, responsibility and care for those who have been wronged.
Quote: “Now this is eternal life, that they should know You, the only true God, and the one whom You sent, Jesus Christ” (J 17:3).
Prayer: Father, teach me to seek eternal life already now: in prayer, in the word of God, in the Eucharist and in love for the people You place on my path.
Practice: Find a few minutes of silence today and read John 17. Pray also for those who have been treated unjustly, the poor, the lonely and those who feel powerless before the system.

Wednesday, 20 May 2026 — Wednesday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white); optional memorial of St Bernardine of Siena, priest.
Essence of the day: Jesus prays for the disciples to be consecrated in truth. The Church cannot live by its own opinions, moods or passing emotions. It needs the word of God, which purifies, orders the heart and protects it from distraction. St Bernardine of Siena reminds us that the name of Jesus can become the centre of preaching, prayer and the renewal of life.
Quote: “Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth” (J 17:17).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may Your word straighten my thoughts, decisions and desires. Consecrate me in the truth, so that I may not live by the appearance of faith, but by the Gospel received with my whole heart.
Practice: Speak the name of Jesus with faith today in a moment of tension, temptation or fatigue. You may also write down one sentence from the Gospel and return to it during the day.

Thursday, 21 May 2026 — Thursday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white); optional memorial of St Christopher Magallanes, priest, and Companions, martyrs.
Essence of the day: Jesus prays “that they may all be one”. This unity is not merely politeness or the absence of conflict. Its source is the communion of the Father and the Son. The memorial of the Mexican martyrs reminds us that the true unity of the Church is born of fidelity to Christ, sometimes amid persecution, misunderstanding and suffering.
Quote: “That they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I in You” (J 17:21).
Prayer: Jesus, heal my heart from pride, prejudice and resentment. Give unity to families, parishes and communities, and give persecuted Christians the courage to persevere.
Practice: Pray today for persecuted Christians throughout the world. Make one gesture of unity: a message of reconciliation, a good word, or a conscious decision not to judge.

Friday, 22 May 2026 — Friday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white); optional memorial of St Rita of Cascia, religious.
Essence of the day: The Gospel takes us to the Sea of Tiberias, where the risen Jesus asks Peter about love. He does not first ask about success, strength or flawlessness, but about the heart. St Rita, patron saint of difficult cases, shows that God can lead a person through suffering, family conflicts and situations that seem humanly closed towards forgiveness and hope.
Quote: “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You” (J 21:17).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You know my heart better than I know it myself. Accept my weak love, heal what is wounded, and teach me to love faithfully despite difficulties.
Practice: Entrust to God today one difficult or seemingly hopeless matter. You may say a prayer through the intercession of St Rita or light a candle for someone who is suffering.
Saints of the day: Optional memorial of St Rita of Cascia, religious, venerated as the patron saint of difficult and hopeless cases.

Saturday, 23 May 2026 — Saturday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Liturgical designation: Weekday of the Easter Season (white); the immediate preparation for the Solemnity of Pentecost.
Essence of the day: The final day before Pentecost closes the time of Easter expectation. The Church hears the words of Jesus addressed to Peter: “You follow Me”. This word purifies us from comparing ourselves with others and leads us to personal fidelity. Before Pentecost, what matters most is the simple heart of a disciple who wants to follow Christ wherever he or she is sent.
Quote: “You follow Me” (J 21:22).
Prayer: Jesus, take away from me unnecessary comparison, jealousy and distraction. Give me the heart of a disciple who hears Your call and answers it with trust.
Practice: In the evening, say a prayer to the Holy Spirit. Ask especially for one gift you need most: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety or fear of the Lord.
Saints of the day: Weekday of the Easter Season; the Roman Martyrology recalls, among others, St Leontius of Rostov, bishop and martyr, St John Baptist de Rossi, priest, and St Jeanne-Antide Thouret, virgin.

The period of 17–23 May 2026 leads the Church from the Ascension of the Lord towards the Vigil of Pentecost. It is a week of looking towards heaven, but also of a very concrete mission on earth: proclaiming the Gospel, remaining in unity, praying for the Holy Spirit and receiving Christ’s personal call: “You follow Me”.
